Safety Courses: OSHA Competent Person Training

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires a Competent Person to oversee all excavation and trenching job sites. This 6-7 hour training course is designed to qualify personnel to perform the role of the Qualified Person on the job site. Canadian and state-specific Excavation Safety Standards will be covered if applicable to class participants.

Overview

The Competent Person is required to be able to identify potential dangers of all excavation worksites as it relates to the OSHA Subpart P - Excavation standards; and enforce the regulated trench safety best practices on all excavation projects. This includes knowing the dynamics of soil pressure, how to classify soil conditions, and how to properly slope a trench or use an appropriate trench safety devise such as a trench shield or hydraulic shoring.
